We use the term Roofline to describe the finishing pieces to the eaves and ends of a roof, typically the separate pieces will be called; fascias, soffits, bargeboards, verges, guttering and cladding. In order for the roof to work properly, and for the property to stay weather-tight, the roofline needs to be kept in good working order. As problems with any piece of the roofline can lead to other issues with the building – particularly timber supports – these can lead to expensive and disruptive repair works.
As most elements of the traditional roofline are made from wood, the elements generally have a limited lifespan before they can start suffering from rot and other problems, as well as requiring regular maintenance and re-painting. Where the wooden elements of the roofline become porous through age or lack of maintenance, it is only a matter of time before the wood starts to decay and this can then lead to further issues with the underlying structure.
For all roofline work we offer customers the choice of what material they would prefer to use for any replacements. The majority of works on fascias, soffits and bargeboards nowadays are done in uPVC as this is longer-lasting and has other benefits, however, some people prefer to keep the look of the timber elements so if requested we can replace like-for-like.
We offer a full range of roofline products and services, including:
Fascias – These elements are best described as the vertical boards covering the ends of the rafters on the bottom of the roof. Fascias are used to cap the end of the timber rafters to protect them, as well as being used to hold the rain gutter underneath the roof.
Soffits – The soffit is the element directly below the fascia, bridging the gap between the side of the house and the roofline. Soffit boards are used to protect the eaves of the house and, depending on the construction, can be ventilated or non-ventilated to provide cross-ventilation in the loft.
Guttering – The main purpose of guttering on your house is to protect the structure of the house by channelling rain water away. Many older gutters start to suffer from erosion, failing supports and other problems which can prevent them doing their job properly. We can supply and replace all elements of guttering, such as rain gutters, downspouts, drains and vents.
Bargeboards – The bargeboard is a board which is fastened to the exposed ends of timbers or purlins from the roof in order to protect them. Without the barge board in place, these timbers would be exposed to the weather and would deteriorate.
Cladding – The cladding of the roofline can be one of the easiest ways to transform the look of the property. Old and rotten cladding can be very unattractive and can also lead to problems of rot and water leaks, we can supply and fit new cladding to whole rooflines to provide a good looking and efficient solution.
